Amber Martin in BATHHOUSE BETTE – Tribute to Bette Midler at Continental Baths
March 8 at 7:00pm. Doors open at 5:30pm.
Spend a night with AMBER MARTIN at Oscar’s Palm Springs.
This critically acclaimed, loud, luminous & loving tribute to Bette Midler’s early career performances at The Continental Baths focuses on the early 70’s, when a 26 year-old, hungry, as-yet-unknown starlet, Bette Midler, got her chops as the resident firecracker chanteuse singing at the legendary gay bathhouse uptown NYC (now a parking lot under The Ansonia). She earned her “camp” medals in the hot & steamy bathhouse, singing to men in towels, still wet from the pool and other dark spaces. Her also as-yet-unknown house accompanist was none other than Barry Manilow, with campy jokes written by Bruce Vilanch & her hairdresser, Mister Gerard.
As per the fiery fashion of our beloved Bette… copious amounts of big-hearted singing, salty stories and spirited dancing ensue! Prepare to get a little steamy as Bathhouse Bette pays tribute to the bawdy, sometimes naughty comedy, and beautiful, early music of Bette Midler in a celebration of bathhouse performances by the iconic singer, actor and comedian.
Amber will be performing live at Oscar’s on March 8th, accompanied by her very own “Barry” on piano.”
