Lyman James Buff was born to a Navy family in 1958, and now Celebrating over 4 decades in the Entertainment Industry. After receiving his MFA from NYU Tisch School of the Arts in 1984, he enjoyed an extensive career in Costume and Make-up design on and off Broadway from the 1980’s thru the 1990’s. During these years in NYC he also designed props, costume , make-up, and sets for films, Johnny Suede, starring Brad Pitt and Katherine Keener, and Crush Groove with Sheila E. and Kurtis Blow. His designs were viewed in TV commercials for Nabisco and Burger King , as well as many Tv shows like HOWARD STERN, JOAN RIVERS, and SALLY JESSIE RAPHAEL. During this time to round out his busy schedule, Electra was born! Headlining his one man cabaret act in posh Manhattan Night Clubs as well as touring the Country!
Electra was created from a friendly dare and presented to large rowdy group on Halloween in 1977 in Charlotte NC. Thus began a roller coaster ride in Show Biz. From summers on Fire Island to private parties throughout NYC, Long Island, Conneticut, and NewJersey, Electra perfected his skills to become one of the most sought after Queens of the 1980’s thru 1990’s
Starring in AN EVENING AT LA CAGE brought him to South Florida at the DILIDO HOTEL( now the RITZ CARLTON on South Beach). He soon became a regular at many Gay Nightclube such as the WARSAW BALLROOM, PARAGON, and the COPA( Fort Lauderdale and Key West). Also during the early 90’s he Headlined in a brief tour at the SANDS HOTEL in Puerto Rico in HOLLYWOOD LEGENDS.
Throught the years , Electra has received several awards for outstanding work in design and female impersonation. These awards include San Francisco’s BAY AREA DRAMA DESK AWARD for design, MAC award for female impersonation, the very first MISS GAY NYC ’86, MISS FIRE ISLAND’ 85, FLORIDA ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR 1994, NATIONAL ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR 1994( won a car), MISS FLORIDA FFI 1997, MISS FLORIDA NATIONAL1995, MISS FLORIDA CONTINENTAL ELITE 2010, and MISS CONTINENTAL ELITE 2010!
With plenty of Cabaret experience and little to no restaurant experience Electra opened the very popular 4 star**** MADAME’S RESTAURANT AND CABARET in Sunny Isles Beach ,Florida for 5 successful but stressful years!
From the smallest of Venues to large casino resorts like RESORTS CASINO HOTEL’S DIVAS IN A MAN’S WORLD in Atlantic City and now performing for thousands of folks worldwide in his 8th summer season at the legendary POST OFFICE CABARET in Provincetown ,Massachusetts. Electra’s ability to make you laugh or cry at the drop of a heel is unquestionable. Perfecting his uncanny 35 plus look-a likes is his passion. This keeps him and the audience on it’s toes! Usually averaging 6 to 9 personas at each performance. Some of his impersonations are so spot on they make the real stars have a second look.
Now after 48 successful years, Jim is hanging up the bra and heels and looking toward retirement with his partner, Stavros in Greece in the near future. So now presenting his LAST AND FINAL TOUR, His Swan Song, The Bucket List Tour:” ELECTRA! I DID IT THEIR WAY” and he is so glad you are on his Bucket List!
